Chapter #4 – Chillin’ with Jean

Jean?

Who the heck is Jean?

Good question.  It’s one that I did not know the answer to only 4 short weeks ago.

But I can happily answer the question now.

Jean is Jean Brozny.  Cool & Fun.  Canadian.  Lives in Toronto.  Works for Corus (the parent company of Smart Woman’s network).  A colleague in her office connected the two of us up.

Because, you see, Jean lived in Prague for two years.

And knowing me only via a single email, she sent me a five page email which has saved my life a number of times on this trip.  Her sage advice included:

  1. -If the milk is lumpy, don’t drink it.
  2. -The young lady in the corset is not interested in you for your mind or your body.  But she will probably give you a good price.
  3. -The man with the knife who is trying to stab you is not your friend.  Run from him.

She also told me restaurants to eat in.  How to say good day and good evening.  And gave me the general lowdown on the city.

Despite my attempt at comedy, her advice was great.  And, since it turned out that her old apartment is less than a block from my apartment, all of her favourite places are really close to me.

So that’s convenient.  Especially when you’re living the life of the lazy.  Like me.

Now, how did we come to hang out together?  Jean is on her own vacation.  She made a pit-stop in Spain before traveling here to Prague for a wedding.  And next week, she’s off to Poland.

Knowing we’d be here at the same time, we arranged to get together for lunch.

Well… It’s turns out that we are kindred spirits in laziness.

She prefers to think of it as “vacationing”.  Either way, it works for me…

What started with lunch at her favourite restaurant, “No Stress”…

Turned into coffee at the uber-cool “Cafe Louvre”

And then a little shopping on one of the main drags.

Which essentially took us through most of the afternoon.

At which point she jumped on the subway, needing to get back to where she was staying so she could get all dolled up for the bachlorette party.

Good fun, good conversation, good times…

Thanks for the fun afternoon, Jean.  We’ll see you in T.O!

And now… tomorrow is another day of laziness.

And this weekend?  It’s off to Berlin for Canadian Thanksgiving in Germany!
